Yaakov al-Qirqisani - Account of His Life
Little is known about Yaakov
al-Qirqisani, except what may be gleaned from
passing references in his own works. al-Kirkasani, like his predecessors was
well learned in Rabbanism: Mishneh, Gemara, Midrash, Commentary and liturgy.
He was also familiar with the Koran and Christian Scriptures. Like his
learning, his circle of friends was varied religiously. He was friends with
many eminent theologians of other faiths: Moslem, Rabbanite, and Christian. al-Qirqisani was a solid opponent of Rabbanism, though he remained respectful
of them despite his disagreements, unlike the "Gaon" Sa'adiya (see Sa'adiya's
account of Anan).
